TimeDescription
09:00-09:30 Welcome Coffee
09:30-09:45Workshop opening, The view of SJU
09:45-10:15 MALORCA and its forerunners

The presentation gives an overview of the Horizon 2020 SESAR funded project MALORCA. The AcListant® project has shown that command recognition error rates below 2% possible. MALORCA proposes a general, cheap and effective solution to adapt speech recognition system to new environments by automatically learning from recorded speech and radar data.

10:15-11:00 ANSP perspective

Austro Control and ANS CR present why they believe that Automatic Speech Recognition has high relevance for ATM and controller productivity. They present their contributions to MALORCA project and next steps.

11:00-11:30 Coffee break
11:30-12:30 Researcher perspective and challenges

MALORCA develops generic basic acoustic, language and command predictions models. The presentations focusses on the performance of these basic models developed in first year and presents ideas and first results how unsupervised and semi-supervised learning can improve these models i.e. adapt to Prague and Vienna Approach area. Radar data and controller pilot voice communication data recorded on daily basis are used for this purpose.

12:30-13:30 Lunch
13:00-14:00 Demonstration corner

The software prototype of the generic basic assistant based speech recognition (ABSR) system is presented. Show case is Prague Approach Area.

14:00-15:00 Workshop 1, 2, ... running in parallel

The workshop participants are divided into separate working groups with 8-12 participants. Currently the following topics are planned:

  • Operational topics (OPS):
    • OPS1: End-user Interaction – ASR integration into HMI
    • OPS2: Phraseology deviations and local variations – how to cope with non-standard phraseology and local vocabulary
    • OPS3: ASR applicability in ATC – TWR, APP, ACC controller support tools, training,..
  • Technical topics (TEC):
    • TEC1: Quality of audio signal and access to data
  • Other topics (OTH):
    • OTH1: How to continue – where we are with respect to the maturity level and how to move forward
    • OTH2: Legal / Ethics of Aspects of voice and Radar recordings
    • OTH3: Proof of concept method

The participant may select the most preferable topic at the beginning of the workshop. Contact the organizers if you want to suggest an additional topic.

15:00-15:30 Break
15:30-16:15 Summary of Working Groups

Each working group has a rapporteur who will summarize the main finding of each working group for the stakeholder participants.

16:15-16:30 Workshops Wrap-up, Q&A and Workshop End
